Literacy

Hi all, I'm Gloria Rodriguez-Gil and I'm an educational specialist for California Deaf-Blind Services. I posted today in the "technology solutions" forum about an app that Cristi Saylor and I created called "The Magical Box." I thought it was important to include it in this forum because it is geared towards literacy. Perkins School for the Blind has already included it in their website under the section "Paths to Literacy." Following is a link to a blog that we wrote on the importance of customization of apps for learning. In it you'll find videos that explain the app and how it works: http://www.curlewapps.com/Blog.html The app can be found in the iTunes Store (iPad, iPhone) and Google Play (Android). We welcome reviews and comments.

Hi All, Cristi Saylor and I wrote a new blog on teaching young children or children with disabilities the gestures to use the iPad. Following is the link http://www.curlewapps.com/Blog.html

Hi Barbara, great idea to include the app as an example for using child interests to promote literacy. In this same vein, we wrote a blog on the personalization/customization of apps. Perkins "Path to Literacy" also included this blog in their website. It is called "Personalized Education Apps." This is the link to the blog http://www.curlewapps.com/Blog.html

Hi Gloria,
The app is great - hoping we'll be able to add it to NCDB's literacy website soon. It would fit great in our Developing Vocabulary section and as an example for using child interests to promote literacy.
