Medical webinar and follow-up drop-in resulted in great sharing!
Early Identification and Intervention
On January 13th, NCDB hosted the 4th in a series of 6 webinars related to the Early Identification and Referral process on the Medical System. Tanni Anthony (CO), Peggy Lashbrook and Carly Fredericks (NJ), Diane Haynes (KT), and Susie Morrow and Suzanne Chen (NY) presented on the work that they have done in their states and what changes they have seen in their child find as a result of this work. Thirty-three people attended and all found the session helpful. The archive of the webinar can be found here:
To continue the discussion and address state specific questions and issues, a follow-up drop in call occurred on January 29th. Six individuals participated in the call. Helpful information around state specific needs was shared.
Some of the resources that are located in the Tool Kit which may help you with your work within the Medical System include the following:
http://documents.nationaldb.org/products/etiologies2001.pdf This is a monograph written by Kathryn Wolff Heller and Cheryl Kennedy which describes in detail from a medical perspective the conditions and syndromes that cause deaf-blindness.
https://nationaldb.org/materials/page/2094/8 This is an 11-page list of syndromes and conditions that may cause deaf-blindness. Each entry includes other symptoms and a website to visit for more information.
https://nationaldb.org/materials/page/151/8 These are bookmarks from Kentucky with an overview of the project and contact information which could be easily customized for your state project.
https://nationaldb.org/materials/page/1958/8 This is a visually appealing brochure from Oklahoma with an overview of the project, reasons why early identification is important, and contact information.
We encourage you to take a peek and let us know if you find them useful.
Our next webinar will be held on Wednesday, February 24th at 12 PT. Katie Humes (WA) and Joanne Whitson (WY) will be presenting on their work with EHDI. A follow-up webinar will be held on Friday, March 4 at 10 PT to continue the discussion and allow states to ask specific questions about the results of their completion of the Self-Assessment Guide and Action Planning process. Please note that these dates and times are a change in the original schedule for this series.
We hope you all can join us!
