NCDB website tours for families were a success!

Family Engagement

Based on a suggestion from the brilliant deaf-blind project family specialists, on September 27 NCDB organized 3 tours for families of the NCDB website. Elizabeth Bell did a phenomenal job of explaining all of the features of the NCDB website – how to create a profile, join an initiative, search for information and share. We had families from 16 states join and learn together! A recording of the webinar can be found here: https://nationaldb.org/library/page/2628

When asked at the end of the webinar what additional topics parents would be interested in learning more about, some of the ideas shared were: Transition, Interveners, Family Organizations & Networking Opportunities, Literacy, Communication 101, Etiologies that Cause Deaf-Blindness, Options for Young Adults who are Deaf-Blind, and Wills & Estate Planning. As we begin to craft plans for future webinars, I’d love to hear from you about additional topics of interest. Feel free to add your thoughts here in the comments section of this forum. I will gather them in the weeks ahead and get planning to give you the information you feel is of highest priority.

A HUGE thanks to the family specialists for rallying families to join us on September 27 as well as to the families who took time out of their busy lives to come and learn!

Hi Julie...the practitioner idea is a good one. Someone also suggested a tip sheet for practitioners on the use of the site. We will take your suggestion and make some plans! Thanks, Gail

Hi Megan, Elizabeth, Peggy and Robin. I just got around to watching the recording and I think it is really done. Elizabeth, the tour you gave was wonderful and so easy to follow. I think you all provided a lot of good information for ways that families can use the NCDB site as a resource and can engage with others and get more involved through the website and social media. I hope some CA families were able to join some of the tours. I will definitely share this link with new families receiving TA from me. I was wondering if NCDB has done, or could do, a similar tour for practitioners. I would love to be able to pass along a link of a recorded web tour to classroom teachers and service providers. I think given their time constraints that a 30 minute tour might work best. Just a thought.
Thanks again for providing this great tour and introduction to the Family Engagement Initiative for families. ~ Julie

A special thanks to Elizabeth, Megan and Peggy, as the tours provided some informative information. I think it is great that we as parents/families can look forward to more webinars on the suggested topics to gain more information and share with other families in our respected states. Thanks NCDB!
