Bilingual Family Engagement Coordinator (IL)

Project Reach: Illinois Deaf-Blind Services is looking for a creative, committed person to serve as our English/Spanish. The Bilingual Family Engagement Coordinator will support families in Project Reach’s activities and programs that promote the development and learning of children and youth with deafblindness. This work will include the planning, development, and evaluation of the activities and programs. Training in deafblindness and other topics provided on the job for candidates with the requirements. 


  • Experience as a family member of an individual with disabilities
  • Fluent and proficient in spoken and written English and Spanish
  • Communication skills, including meeting facilitation skills
  • Ability to travel
  • Ability to plan and attend annual family training weekends
  • Experience in navigating early intervention/educational/medical systems with family members
  • Understanding of use of computer and phone for email, social media, and meetings/conference calls
  • Ability to complete online trainings to increase skills and knowledge


  • Bachelor’s degree, preferred
  • Experience  working in the fields of education, disabilities, medical,  or related field
  • Knowledge of IL organizations and related services specific to supporting families of children and youth with combined hearing and vision loss
  • Knowledge of educational/service delivery systems in IL (i.e., IEP, IFSP & transition planning) essential to the needs of deafblind students and their families


  • Provide mentoring to families
  • Assist families in navigating the early intervention/educational/transition system
  • Plan and coordinate training
  • Complete distance activities by phone and email with families
  • Act as liaison and between families and other project and school staff
  • Some translation and interpretation
  • Work successfully independently and as part of a team


  • Some travel in Illinois, rare but occasional travel outside of Illinois
  • Flexible hours to accommodate occasional evening and weekend events

.25 FTE, may be increased
