Helen Keller Services (HKS) is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to enable individuals who are blind, visually impaired, deaf-blind, and/or have combined hearing-vision loss to live, work, and thrive in their community of choice. With headquarters in Brooklyn, NY, HKS is comprised of Helen Keller Services for the Blind (HKSB) and Helen Keller National Center for Deaf-Blind Youths and Adults (HKNC). HKSB provides a wide range of rehabilitative services for New York Metropolitan-based individuals who are blind and visually impaired through its HKSB facilities located in Brooklyn, Nassau County, and Suffolk County. HKNC provides vocational and independent living skills training to youth and adults who are deaf-blind or have combined hearing-vision loss at its Sands Point facility, as well as through 16 field representatives/service providers across the United States. With an annual operating budget of over $23 million and a staff of approximately 300, Helen Keller Services relies on funds from public programs (state and federal), grants, legacies, private donations, earnings from an investment portfolio, and fundraising activities.
Reporting directly to the Board of Trustees, the CEO will lead all HKS operational facets while also serving as the face of the organization. He/she will have a passion for working with the disability community and representing their needs, along with the ability to develop and sustain a clear vision and strategy for the organization, diversify funding, cultivate donors, and promote a culture of collaboration and transparency.
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of five years senior management experience in a large, complex organization and experience transforming and growing programs within an organization. The successful individual will additionally exhibit a strong financial acumen and donor/funding identification and cultivation achievement while being an effective communicator. A bachelor’s degree is required; an advanced degree if preferred. Compensation is commensurate with experience and includes a competitive salary and benefits package.
