Sheri Stanger

CHARGE Syndrome Foundation : Director of Outreach

My name is Sheri Stanger and my husband Neal and I live in NY with our 2 young adult children, Megan and Matthew. Megan is 22 years old and has CHARGE syndrome. My background is in School Counseling for children with special needs. I wear a few hats and while I’m first and foremost Megan’s mom, I am also the Director of Outreach for the CHARGE Syndrome Foundation. I have held this part time position since November 2010 and assist families with information, resources, support and parent connections. In addition, I work with professionals in the field of deaf-blindness, special education and rehabilitation and I’m part of the NCDB Family Engagement Technical Work Group. This year I began a volunteer based pilot project called the CHARGE Syndrome State Parent Liaisons that assist me with outreach to the state deaf-blind projects that I hope to expand over the next year. In addition to my work with the CHARGE Syndrome Foundation, I am also a 17 year board member and past president of the National Family Association for Deaf-Blind. I believe a well informed and connected parent becomes a strong advocate for their child of any age and I also believe strongly in collaborating with professionals in this field.
