My name is Patti McGowan; I live outside of Pittsburgh, PA. I am a Family Consultant for PaTTAN and the PA Deaf-Blind Initiative (pmcgowan@pattan.net) . I currently hold the position of secretary to NFADB, The National Family Association for Deaf-Blind and general board member to the State Affiliate to NFADB known as PPDB, PA Partnership for DeafBlind. I have had the opportunity to work as a consultant assisting NCDB National Consortium on Deaf-Blindness both in the development of content for a national website on advocacy and leadership for families. I have had years of experience in training parents and families in all aspects of advocacy and leadership. I was a parent contributor as a module creator on a team for OHOA, Open Hand Open Access, contributing concepts, ideas, resources and video to sculpt the open access resource. However, I think my most important role is I am a parent to a young adult son with Usher syndrome Type II and advocate side by side with him with all the many issues of deaf-blindness.
