: Ph.D. Student (Emphasis in Deafblindness)
Tara, a former employee of the Helen Keller National Center, has enjoyed over 7 years of working with youth and adults with deafblindness. During that time, she served in a multitude of roles: support service provider, vision rehabilitation therapist, tactual sign language interpreter, and certified orientation and mobility specialist.
She is currently pursuing her Ph.D. at University of Northern Colorado in Special Education with an emphasis in deafblindness and focuses her studies on transition, adaptive orientation and mobility strategies, assistive technology, and communication access.
Focusing on qualitative research, Tara has presented internationally with Dr. Silvia Correa-Torres on personnel prep for orientation and mobility specialists working with students who are deafblind.
Tara has joined several task forces related to deafblindness at the state and national level and volunteers her time to improve transition and intervener services for students with dual sensory loss. She has also provided in-service presentations to organizations in Colorado on transition issues related to deafblindness.
