March 2017 EI/R Update

Early Identification and Referral

I can hardly wait to see many of you this weekend in Austin, Texas for the Deaf-Blind Summit! It will be a wonderful time to celebrate, reflect and think about next steps in our work. I am pleased to announce 2 upcoming webinars for the EI/R Initiative that I hope you’ll add to your calendar:

1) On Wednesday, April 19 at 12 PT we will be having a 1-hour webinar on the soon-to-be released Part C Framework called “The Sooner the Better: A Technical Assistance Framework Based on DEC Recommended Practices for Early Intervention Providers”. The purpose of this framework is to provide a collection of on-line resources that are organized in a way that will allow state deaf-blind projects to provide customized training and technical assistance to early intervention providers and families. The content is organized to increase knowledge and skills in recognizing and identifying children with combined vision and hearing loss, important key instructional strategies and the developmental domains used by early interventionists. The network owes a deep amount of gratitude to the following Part C workgroup members for helping provide materials and critical feedback in the creation of this product: Emma Nelson (VT), Carol Darrah (GA), Danna Conn (TN), Lisa Poff (IN) & Sherri Nelson (ND) as well as the recently retired Barb Purvis.

2) On Wednesday, May 24 at 12 PT we will be having a 90-minute webinar where our dear friends from “The Dakotas” – Rose Moehring and Sherri Nelson – will be sharing their experience of using the OHOA modules to train Part C providers. A few Part C providers will be joining them to discuss how the modules have improved their knowledge and skills in working with infants and toddlers with combined vision and hearing loss. After their presentation, there will be time for Q&A and open discussion.

Stay tuned for log-in details for both of these webinars. We hope you can join us!
