Happy Fall Everyone!

Hoping you had a nice Halloween and that you are preparing for time with family and friends over the holidays.  Here are some updates and resources that we thought we should share…

1)  A video from the DaSy Center, the ETCA Center, and collaborating partners entitled “Supporting Children By Improving Family Outcomes”

http://dasycenter.org/supporting-children-by-improving-family-outcomes/

This 13-minute video describes the importance of supporting families, collecting data on family outcomes, and using the data to improve programing. The video highlights how three families who received early intervention services benefited from support to their family.

2)  A new law, the Early Hearing Detection and Intervention (EHDI) Act, was recently signed to strengthen the early hearing screening program for infants and children.  To read more, go to: https://www.nidcd.nih.gov/news/2017/new-law-early-hearing-screening-infants-and-children?utm_source=NIDCDEblast&utm_medium=email&utm_term=GeneralPublic&utm_content=English&utm_campaign=EHDI2017

3)  If you work for a state deaf-blind project and are wanting to integrate evidence-based practices into your early identification and referral action planning process, then do we have the resource for you!  This link will take you to a form that you can fill in to make sure you are using the best strategies to strengthen referrals: https://nationaldb.org/materials/page/1962/8

4)  If you haven’t spent time looking through the resource called “The Sooner the Better: A Framework for Training Early Intervention Practitioners on Deaf-Blindness” then we highly recommend you do so!  The first section called “Recognizing and Understanding Sensory Loss” is full of information about combined vision and hearing loss, including risk factors, the diversity of the population and impact on early development.  Here’s the link to get your started on your exploration: http://nationaldb.org/products/ei-framework?
