Intervener Services Work
Interveners and Qualified Personnel
This page was last updated on Aug 30, 2017 at 4:13 pm
Over the past five years, an informal community of practice has developed related to work implementing NCDB’s Recommendations for Improving Intervener Services. These recommendations, developed in 2012 in response to a request by the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Special Education Programs, have provided and continue to provide a blueprint guiding many Interveners and Qualified Personnel Initiative activities.
Many individuals (families and professionals) and agencies joined forces to address specific recommendations related to training and certification. The current focus of the work is on promoting recognition and use of interveners. Specific activities include:
- Providing consultation and technical support to state deaf-blind projects on how to recruit and work with interveners who are interested in going through the NICE process
- Developing coaching and mentoring resources to promote skill development and support interveners engaged in NICE
- Collection and development of resources that can be used to build sustainable state and local systems to encourage the use of interveners
