November News

Welcome to November and the first Interveners and Qualified Personnel (IQP) November News!  Over the past four months, the IQP team has been busy.  Here are some updates:

  • Currently there are 19 states with active cohorts using OHOA modules: AZ, CA, CT, MA, ME, MO, MS, ND, NH, NY, OH, OK, OR, PA, RI, SD, VA, VT, WA

  • OHOA Modules are being edited for better accessibility

Continuing Education Units (CEUs) and Professional Development:

  • We are working with San Diego State University to develop a university credit structure that can be used nationally to fulfill CEUs for teachers and related service providers

  • Modules are being aligned with professional competencies for various disciplines including teachers, SLPs, and interpreters

Intervener Services:

  • The Intervener Pilot Project is well underway with all three cohorts working diligently

    • As part of the pilot, participating states meet monthly for peer-to-peer TA, problem solving, and discussions surrounding issues associated with the pilot.  The October meeting, held on October 27, was especially enlightening as we had Susan Patten and Nikki Holmstead from the Utah project join and share their experiences with virtual coaching.  Future meetings will cover a variety of topics (e.g., improving candidate growth, providing TA to districts/schools/teams, and systems change).  We would like to include presentations from state projects surrounding these ideas.  If you are interested in presenting at a meeting, please contact Kristi Probst at

  • Three interveners have successfully completed the National Intervener Certification E-portfolio (NICE) and are now nationally certified interveners

  • National Intervener Association (NIA)

Advocacy for the Intervener Role

  • We have been interviewing states who have had success in their advocacy efforts - we will post those stories soon!
