Expressive communication involves sending a message to another person. Children and youth who are deaf-blind are able to express themselves in many ways. This factsheet highlights the importance of being responsive to a child’s varied forms of communication and encouraging opportunities for expressive communication, and presents guidelines for designing an effective communication program.
