Part 2: Universal, Targeted, and Intensive TA
Part 2 of this guide covers technical assistance activities. It is aligned with OSEP tiered TA definitions. Many were contributed by state deaf-blind projects from across the U.S. as examples of effective strategies they use to structure their family TA.
Family-centered practices should align with the following principles (Hatton et al., 2018):
- View families as the experts on their children’s developmental needs and the family’s needs/concerns
- Encourage families to make informed decisions regarding services to meet those needs
- Build on existing family strengths
- Focus on collaborative teaming and partnerships with families
