Discussion Board Activity - Managing the Environment To Prevent Behavior Problems:
As an intervener, what could you do to create an optimal environment for your student—one that promotes development and minimizes challenging behaviors?
- Familiar – How could you create an environment that feels safe and secure to the child?
- Regular – How could you create an environment that is predictable for the child?
- Responsive – How could you create an environment that anticipates his or her behavior?
- Meets basic needs – How could you create an environment that anticipates the child's needs?
- Think about how these features of the environment (familiar, regular, responsive, meets basic needs) are influenced by people, time, space, and sensory impairments.
Answer at least two of the questions and post your responses. Respond to at least one other post.
Takeaway
Behavior is strongly influenced by the environment. Modifying the environment is often easier and more effective than trying to modify the behavior of a child.
